The Invisible Journey of Healing: Understanding Inner Changes
Themes: Healing, progress, anxiety
Helpful for: Most clients
As a psychologist, I often remind my clients that just because external progress isn’t visible doesn’t mean that healing isn’t happening internally. Many of us may feel stuck or disheartened when we don’t see immediate changes in our circumstances or behaviors. However, it’s essential to recognize that healing is a deeply personal journey that often begins within. Therapy is a slow process that doesn’t typically result in immediate change. It can be a difficult process, when progress feels slow - but I want to encourage my clients and you that change IS happening internally and that will show on the outside before you know it.
The Inner Work of Healing
Even when outward signs—like smiling or validating feelings—aren’t apparent, significant transformations may be occurring beneath the surface. This internal healing process can include developing new coping mechanisms, processing emotions, or challenging negative thought patterns. Healing truly starts from the inside out. Medically, emotional and psychological well-being lays the foundation for physical health. When we focus on nurturing our inner selves, we pave the way for positive changes that may eventually manifest externally. If you feel like progress is slow, remember that every small step counts. Trust the process, and know that even the unseen changes are vital to your overall healing. Sometimes, it’s about being patient and allowing your inner work to unfold.
